Meet the Rockstars Behind SCIP SEWS
Many times the clothes you wear and buy have a lot of untold stories behind them. In an effort to uncover the stories that lie behind SCIP Sews’ (an honest charitable organisation) success and determination, our volunteer Kranti Bandhu shared a few stories of women who work at SCIP Sews and also avail the free healthcare facilities at SCIP Medical Clinic. Hope these stories inspire, motivate, and nourish your soul!
MEET NEETU - A KICKASS 35-YEAR-OLD MOM-OF-TWO WHO RUNS THE FAMILY
Neetu is a thirty-five-year-old woman who has two children. She underwent training at SCIP Sews Women Empowerment Project and now works as a Seamstress for SCIP Sews. She also helps to maintain cleanliness and efficiency in the project premises. Her husband used to drive a mini-truck and transport things across Indian states and cities. But once, he was found to be carrying illegal things and had to face jail time for six months. During this time, Neetu took it upon herself to be strong and to provide for her family. She worked very hard to manage her home and to ensure that her kids don’t miss a school year (or even a day). She doesn’t want her kids to stay or grow up in a slum, so she’s working hard to ensure that they can stay in a hostel (a boarding school of sorts). Even though now that her husband is back and working on small jobs, Neetu hasn’t lost her enthusiasm for sewing and she’s working continuously on different projects at SCIP Sews. Please consider buying something hand-crafted from SCIP Sews to help Neetu and her family.
MEET TARA - A TEENAGE NINJA WHO FUNDS HER BROTHER’S EDUCATION
Have you ever read a dystopian novel with a strong female lead and wondered if they exist for real? Well, if you were to look at Tara’s life story then you’d be sure that she’s a strong character who could easily feature as a lead in a novel or a movie. Even though she’s just fourteen years old, it is remarkable the amount of clarity she has. It is her life’s mission to be the best seamstress and make a career in stitching. She has started to achieve her dream at a young age, and what’s wonderful is she’s trying to support her 16-year old brother to achieve his dreams, too. She’s funding his education and recently, when her brother passed with first division in his high school exam, Tara’s joy knew no bounds. She was elated! Tara is currently working on the School Uniform Assignments for SCIP Sews. Please help Tara (meaning: Star in Hindi) to shine brightly in her endeavours and to glow warmly by buying something from SCIP Sews.
MEET AARTI - A GRITTY WOMAN WHOSE STORY WILL TOUCH YOUR HEART
Aarti is twenty-four weeks (around five months) pregnant. This is her third pregnancy -- Her first-born is now a four-year-old healthy baby girl who is studying at the SCIP ECO (Equality, Compassion, Opportunity) School in the playgroup section. Her second pregnancy had a lot of complications at around 4 months, which resulted in a stillbirth (Intrauterine Fetal Death) and was ultimately aborted. This time she is under the supervision of Dr. Khushboo at the SCIP Medical Clinic. Our Volunteer Kranti Bandhu is also taking special care of Aarti to help her with her pregnancy. She was given progesterone tablets for the first three months to ensure that her pregnancy is maintained. Aarti is currently studying and mastering the art of stitching and also working as a seamstress at the SCIP ECO School and helping with the new uniform project. She plans to join SCIP Sews in the future. Please consider buying something from SCIP Sews project as 100% of the profits go back to the SCIP Medical Clinic and the SCIP ECO School which affect a lot of people positively.
