Education: The SCIP ECO School

Education is one of the most pressing development needs in Faridabad, Sector Four in particular has a high number of school-age children who are unable to attend the government public school for reasons related to their living in poverty conditions, loss of parental care, lack of transportation or living on the streets.

Further, there is evidence to support the claim of a positive relation between education and health, in which studies have suggested that years of formal schooling completed are the most important correlate of good health. Thus the seed for an honest charity for kids education -- The SCIP ECO School -- was planted.

education, compassion and opportunity.

There is a considerable gap between male and female literacy rates in India. Females constitute about 50% of country’s human resource but lack of education snatches their chance to be a part of the progress and development of India.


Even if females do not use education to work, total illiteracy has a huge negative impact. At the current rate of progress, India will not attain universal literacy until 2060.

The SCIP School, an honest charity, provides an opportunity for both girls and boys in the Sector-Four community to learn basic skills and literacy that will enable them to better prepare themselves for possible entrance into government school. This is a path that can potentially lead to university study and higher education. SCIP offers scholarships for students to help them make the transition to public school. 

The SCIP School is non-profit project that currently teaches approximately 70 students, divided into three separate classes based on age, level of achievement and academic skill. The kindergarten, beginners and advanced classes all learn basic maths, English (including spelling and writing) and science taught in both English and Hindi languages.  All teachers are highly qualified local residents of the community.


Educate a child and change his/her future. 

SCIP hopes that by providing education facilities, this will lead to higher literacy rates within the slum community. Individual students will gain:

  • The ability to utilise the skills taught
  • Better understanding of communication (verbal and written)
  • Improved health (better prepared to prevent disease and to use health services effectively)
  • Better knowledge of nutrition and sanitation
  • Awareness to prevent illness
  • Willingness to improve their community by educating future generations

In addition to providing education, funds are distributed to classroom facilities, stationary, uniforms, school lunches (prepared by the Women’s Empowerment Group) and scholarships to public schools.

As part of our desire to move SCIP forward, we aim to follow the same curriculum as Indian Government schools. By improving our education system, our focus is to enable a smooth transition for our students from the classroom to other schools and other Indian communities.
