Power of Community
Rise the Community aims to empower each person who passes our brand, we are about lifting and Rising. We wish to empower children through connection to nature, freedom to play, non-binary fashion choices and inspiration. As one of the biggest determining factors for positive child outcomes is parental mental health*(Intensive Mothering) we also aim to empower parents and particularly mothers. But before we were mothers, we are women and as gender inequality continues, we are making it our mission to represent ourselves.
We believe women are at the heart of all communities everywhere because when you invest in women you invest in families and community as well as a faster economic growth which is key to sustainable development.
Women are overrepresented among the world’s most vulnerable groups
Women’s Empowerment” is not dismissing males issues, only acknowledging the need for gender equality. We can only draw from our own experiences as a women-led brand and have chosen to bring awareness about gender inequality.

Rise was born in Faridabad, India -a small community facing challenges in accessing education, healthcare and employment. Women here face unique gender-based challenges, including limited access to education, pregnancy-related healthcare and employment and this is initially why I started a charity here with the local people. But this community knew what they needed, and it wasn’t more donations. Then in 2015, the women requested sewing and seamstress skills for to broaden their employment opportunities and we listened by launching “Rise the Community” a brand dedicated to seeing Women’s Empowerment through a wealth of knowledge and skill.
Since moving away from a charity to a sustainable model we have invested in a full-time head-tailor and pattern-maker to ensure the women are qualified with a complete set of tailors skills, including pattern making, cutting, sewing and finishing, instead of the traditional production line process. This investment allows them to take and teach their skills with them, where ever their lives may take them.
Opening “The Pererna Hub” sewing house was a proud day, meaning inspiration, it was the biggest step we had made towards self-sustainability. After years of practice the ladies we were ready to finally create and launch our first collection. The ownership of their own business means that the women will eventually be able to produce garments for other brands who share the same ethics and their own work. We are also proud to offer opportunities in business management and administration so the ladies can confidently manage their own contracts.
Devastatingly, in 2013, over one thousand garment workers (mostly women) were killed in Bangladesh as their factory building collapsed due to poor conditions this tragedy drew the attention to unsafe workplaces in the industry and the terrible conditions may workers face. Our sewing-house is a large room with plenty on windows walking distance from the ladies home, our primary school and clinic it is safe and clean follows cultural norms to ensure the women feel comfortable in their workplace. The women and trainers are all paid an agreed living wage that ensures they can afford food, all household, health expenses, healthcare and savings for future goals. We also encourage up-skilling and management roles.
Even though the journey may be bumpy at times we believe in our work, gender equality and the children of the next generation.
